Kabuki is a uniquely Japanese form of theater and one of Japan's traditional performing arts, designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property. It is said that the kabuki dance, originally created by a female performer named Izumo no Okuni, developed and perfected through many twists and turns during the Edo period, eventually becoming the kabuki we know today. Shochiku, which also owns the kabuki trademark, was founded in 1895. The many wonderful plays you can enjoy at renowned theaters, including the Kabukiza in Ginza, the Shinbashi Enbujo Theater, the Osaka Shochikuza Theater, and the Minamiza Theater in Kyoto, are all produced and promoted by Shochiku.
