Description
This netsuke features cherry blossoms, a popular motif since the founding of Kasu Studio, and the Yamataka Jindai Sakura, the oldest giant cherry tree in Japan at 2,000 years old. It depicts the trunk of a cherry tree and the image of an old tree still in full bloom.
The rugged, uneven surface of the trunk is given a smoked finish, expressing the dignity of an old tree. The image of cherry blossoms still in full bloom despite their age is also adorned with plenty of pink silver. Legend has it that the Jindai Sakura tree was planted by Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, and was revived when Nichiren prayed for its recovery after it was almost withered, so this piece depicts the powerful blossoms blooming from between the trunks as if they are being reborn. This is a striking accessory that can be worn by both men and women in any season.
