Description
This ring features cherry blossoms, a popular motif since the founding of Kasu Studio, and the Yamataka Jindai Sakura, the oldest giant cherry tree in Japan at 2,000 years old. The ring depicts the undulating trunk of the Yamataka Jindai Sakura, an old tree still in full bloom.
The rugged, uneven surface of the trunk is given a smoked finish, expressing the dignity of an old tree. The back is engraved with tree rings that give a sense of the tree's age. The piece also features numerous pink silver details, depicting cherry blossoms still in full bloom despite their age. Legend has it that the Jindai Sakura tree was planted by Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, and was revived when Nichiren prayed for its recovery after it was nearly dead, hence the depiction of blossoms blooming powerfully from between the trunks, as if they were being reborn. This striking accessory can be worn by both men and women in any season.
