Description
There are legends of "bakeneko" (bakeneko) and "nekomata" (neko-mata), creatures that have been familiar to people since ancient times and transformed into monsters. This elaborately designed silver netsuke features a mask depicting such a cat.
Since ancient times, cats have been thought to possess special powers, and they were seen as monsters because they are nocturnal, have glowing eyes, change shape, and walk without making a sound. Their mysterious appearance is carefully carved down to the smallest detail, giving them an outstanding presence. The sides are adorned with decorative cords and bells, reminiscent of cats. They can be worn in a variety of ways, such as as a netsuke or as a top piece on a chain. We also recommend wearing them as a set with earrings or a ring.
