Description
Karasu Tengu, a creature with a bird-like beak and dressed like a mountain ascetic, is a character of legends that remain throughout Japan. This elaborately designed silver netsuke features the legendary monster as a mask.
The Karasu Tengu, described as both a monster and a god, is said to have large wings on its back and to fly freely through the sky. It is also an accomplished swordsman, and one legend has it that a Karasu Tengu from Mount Kurama taught swordsmanship to the young Ushiwakamaru. While Karasu Tengu is a Japanese monster, the tribal patterns on its face give it an ethnic feel, highlighting the strength of the Tori Tengu. The intricate carving of its beak and feathers creates a striking presence. It can be worn in a variety of ways, including as a netsuke or as a top piece on a chain. It is also recommended to wear it as a set with earrings or a ring.
