Description
A new addition to the "Cherry Blossom Series," a popular motif since Kasuu Kobo was founded.
We have incorporated the mountain cherry blossom, a type of cherry blossom that blooms and then sprouts leaves at the same time, into the motif of four items.
The cherry blossom is also considered Japan's national flower, and among them, the mountain cherry was a variety that was popular as a synonym for cherry blossoms before the man-made Somei Yoshino appeared. It is an ancient wild variety that is said to be long-lived and was also used as a signal for rice planting. Its flower language is "smiles at you," and the cherry blossom has been a constant companion to the lives of the Japanese people, so much so that it is even read in waka poetry.
It is filled with the hope that it will continue to watch over the wearer.
Let us all feel pity for the mountain cherry blossoms
No one knows anything other than the flowers
[Former Priest Gyoson (No. 66) Kinyoshu, Miscellaneous, 556]
The back of the netsuke is also engraved with the silhouette of a cherry blossom, which is meant to resemble the shadow of a cherry blossom and represent the sun shining on the cherry blossom.
This netsuke is inspired by the image of the lively appearance of wild mountain cherry blossoms, with young leaves swaying in the wind, the movement of cherry blossom petals, and the shadows cast by the sunlight.
