Description
The giant toad is a variation of a giant bullfrog, depicted in a collection of strange stories from the Edo period. This silver pendant top features a rare toad motif.
Giant toads have been passed down through the ages, and because of the way they catch their prey with their long tongues, they are feared as beings with a demonic aura, likely sucking the life out of people. However, in Kabuki, they are also used as a form of magic by kind-hearted ninja thieves. Their energetic, sharp gaze captures the hearts of those who see them, just like the mie pose of a rare Kabuki actor glaring down evil spirits. The exquisite, dull, lustrous color of the oxidized silver and the sacred tribal motif on the back, which is symbolic of the IZURU series, create an unparalleled sense of dignity.
