Description

Introducing new colors! Introducing original tsumami kanzashi, made using the traditional Japanese technique of "tsumami zaiku," available only at Kanzashiya Wargo.

Kanzashi (ornaments) with tsumami-zaiku (hand-crafted ornaments) have long been used as hair accessories for traditional Japanese clothing, adding a touch of elegance to updos worn with kimono, including the flower kanzashi (maiko kanzashi) that adorn the traditional Japanese hairstyles of maiko. This set includes a 20-comb set suitable for attaching to the sides or back of hair, and a 10-comb set recommended for side ties. Both flower kanzashi are adorned with generous decorative cords and woven into large bows. The larger flower kanzashi features a double bow, adding volume that will appeal to the feminine heart. Five other plum blossoms surround a smaller plum blossom in the center, creating the appearance of a single, large plum blossom. Bells at the ends of the cords create a delicate, rustling sound with every step. These bells are suitable for everyday use as well as for celebratory occasions such as Coming of Age Ceremonies and New Year's celebrations, making them a focal point for hairstyles. This is a traditional tsumami kanzashi that is unique to wargo, which follows tradition while also emphasizing modern innovation.

Designer's thoughts
Wargo's original tsumami kanzashi (hairpins) are crafted using the traditional Japanese technique known as tsumami zaiku. This set includes 20 combs, each featuring a cute, girly design featuring a bow and plum blossom motif, and 10 simple, easy-to-use combs. The bells at the bottom of each comb are special bells used in a musical instrument called a gungur, giving them a unique finish. While perfect as a set, they are also recommended for simple use on their own or paired with other kanzashi for a more glamorous look. These kanzashi are perfect for formal occasions like coming-of-age ceremonies, weddings, and parties, as well as everyday wear with yukata and kimono.
