Description

Introducing new colors! Introducing original tsumami kanzashi, made using the traditional Japanese technique of "tsumami zaiku," available only at Kanzashiya Wargo.

Kanzashi (ornaments) decorated with tsumami zaiku (hand-crafted ornamental hairpins) have been used as hair accessories to complement traditional Japanese clothing, adding a touch of elegance to updos worn with kimono, including the flower kanzashi (maiko kanzashi) that adorn the traditional Japanese hairstyles of maiko. The plump plum ornaments, available in three different sizes, exude a warmth unique to tsumami. The back is adorned with three decorative cords, creating a light and airy impression. Bells at the ends of both cords create a delicate, rustling sound with every step, adding a striking presence. Its size makes it easy to use as the focal point of a hairstyle. It pairs perfectly with traditional Japanese clothing for special occasions like coming-of-age ceremonies, graduation ceremonies, and thank-you parties. Compared to single-legged kanzashi, this kanzashi holds its shape better and is relatively easy to use, even for beginners. Wargo's traditional tsumami kanzashi, adhering to tradition while emphasizing modern innovation, are distinctive.

Designer's thoughts
Wargo's original tsumami kanzashi was crafted using the traditional Japanese technique known as tsumami zaiku. The simple yet luxurious design features three large and small plum blossoms paired with two-colored strings, featuring four hanging strings. The thin, strip-like silver plates, called ginbira, sparkle in the light and create a subtle, jingling sound with each movement, creating a truly gorgeous effect. The bells at the end are special bells used in a musical instrument called a gungur, resulting in a truly unique finish. Perfect on their own, or paired with other kanzashi for a more elegant look, this kanzashi is perfect for formal occasions like coming-of-age ceremonies, weddings, and parties, as well as everyday wear like yukata and kimono.
