Description
Introducing a netsuke with a cute, round, puffy Fukurasuzume (Fukurasuzume) motif.
The expressive, puffy sparrow features meticulous attention to detail, including its legs and feather patterns, making it charming from any angle. Its jump ring allows it to be used not only as a netsuke but also as a necklace. The sparrow is a familiar wild bird, appearing frequently in Japanese folk tales and songs. In winter, the sparrow puffs up its feathers, becoming perfectly round and plump, and is known as the "puffy sparrow." This reference has also been used to tie the obi (sash) of a furisode (long-sleeved kimono), hairstyles, and swords. The character "fukura" (luck) is also written as "fukura" (lucky) or "fukurai" (lucky), and has long been cherished as a symbol of good fortune. The puffy sparrow, bringing happiness, transforms into a bell that is said to ward off evil spirits with its loud chirp. It makes a highly recommended charm or gift.
