Description
This is a single hairpin, a type of traditional hairpin called a "flat hairpin," made from cow bone horn and carved with a flower diamond pattern.
This flat-shaped hairpin features a flat ornament with a foot and an ear pick. Traditionally, people have enjoyed various ways of decorating the flat ornament with their family crest or the initials of a loved one. We've carved a traditional Hanabishi pattern into this flat-shaped hairpin, creating a charming finish. Because the material is natural, each pattern is unique, with a tortoiseshell-like sheen and shine, giving it a luxurious feel. It's also thick and durable, making it easy to wear even with long hair, and can be worn alone. It easily matches with other hairpins, creating a charming look in both Japanese and Western styles. It's also less prone to static electricity, making it perfect for everyday use as well as Japanese hairstyles.
Designer's thoughts
This is an original Wargo flat-headed hairpin, featuring a carved hanabishi (flower diamond pattern) on a flat-headed hairpin, also known as a courtesan hairpin. Courtesan hairpins, which were believed to be a sign of status based on how many luxurious accessories they wore, were usually crafted from genuine tortoiseshell, and were so luxurious that it was said that the accessories worn above the face were enough to build a house. Crafted from ox bone, this hairpin has been revived for the modern era as a casual and easy-to-wear hairpin, while retaining its atmosphere and sense of luxury. It is a hairpin that can be worn casually not only for Japanese hairstyles at coming-of-age ceremonies and weddings, but also for everyday wear.
