Description
These simple, unpainted Asunaro chopsticks take advantage of the material's unique characteristics and have a subtle fragrance unique to the cypress family.
The silhouettes of animals living in the mountains and fields are branded on the pieces. Asunaro is an evergreen coniferous tree endemic to Japan, found from Hokkaido to Kyushu, belonging to the Cupressaceae family. Written in kanji as 'yohi', this tree is also called 'asuhi' (tomorrow's cypress). Like hinoki (Japanese cypress), it is highly durable and can withstand water and moisture, so it is also used for bathtubs and lacquerware bases.
