伝統的な日本の髪型「日本髪」

It seems that from the Meiji and Taisho periods through the early days of Showa, there were women who wore Japanese hairstyles, but in recent years, it has been limited to women in the entertainment districts of Kyoto and other areas. There are various names for it in the entertainment districts across Japan, but it is the maiko of Kyoto who are most known for their "Japanese hairstyle."
Geisha and maiko wear wigs, but maiko wear their own hair. There are also differences in the flower hairpins and hairstyles, and of course, gorgeous Japanese hairstyles and flower hairpins look best with furisode.
In recent years, the number of businesses that allow tourists to dress up as maiko has increased, and they will even style your natural hair in a maiko-style Japanese hairstyle, combining it with a wig. You can even walk around town in a maiko furisode kimono. That must be fun.

You can style a furisode with a Japanese hairstyle in your own town without going to Kyoto, but recently there are fewer hairdressers who can do Japanese hairstyles properly. People have been living without wearing kimono for a long time, and it is becoming like a national costume, so it is only natural that hairstyles are changing.

Even so, at coming-of-age ceremonies and university graduation parties, you can see people wearing furisode, but even though they may have hairstyles that resemble Japanese hairstyles, you will never see them with Japanese hairstyles.
It is true that women of today look better with hairstyles that are more colorful than traditional Japanese hairstyles. This is because glittering flower corsages look better with modern furisode than traditional hairpins.
